FALL PROGRAM
Fall classes start the week of September 15th and run for 8 weeks.
Level 1 Tuesdays 9:30am - 12:00pm or 7:00pm - 9:30pm - Basic wheel course
A very enjoyable introduction to pottery on the wheel. You will be given a short
background on clay and the importance of clean-up. Covered is clay preparation,
centering, throwing cylinders, trimming a foot, making a mug, pulling and attaching a
handle, applying slip colours and glazing. Each student has a wheel. Tools are provided
for Level 1. You are asked to bring an apron.

Level 1 Wednesdays 7:00pm - 9:30pm
This course is the same as the basic wheel course above.

Level 1 Saturdays - Teen and Adult Wheel 1:00pm - 3:00pm
This is a good basic Level 1 program for adults or teens. It is especially fun for a parent
and teenager to experience together the challenge and joy of the pottery wheel. For
returning students there is a more challenging program.

Level 1 Sundays - Teen and Adult Wheel 12:30pm - 2:30pm

This is a wheel course that will both cover the basic Level 1 course (see above) for
beginners, and provide a more challenging program for the more advanced student.

This course offers instruction at the beginner level and also a more in depth program to
students who have completed Level 1.

Level 2 - Advanced - Tuesdays 7:00pm - 10:00pm (includes 1 hour of practice)
This course progresses through covered forms, bowls, plates, sets, teapots and closed-in
forms. More variety in decorative techniques is shown. Exploration of other firing
processes, e.g. Raku and Smoke firing, is offered in some courses by way of off-site
workshops.

Level 3 - Advanced - Mondays 7:00pm - 10:00pm (includes 1 hour of practice)
This course is for the advanced student who wishes to be challenged at all levels of pottery
making. Emphasis is on decorative techniques. Students are encouraged in developing
their own style and projects within the framework of the course.

Children’s Pottery - Saturdays 10:00am - 11:30am or 12:30pm - 2:00pm (6-12yrs)
This is a very exciting and enjoyable program for children that brings them back time and
time again. After learning basic hand-building techniques the students are encouraged to
express their own creativity in each piece worked on. Amazing works have been produced
by participants under this instructor’s guidance. Returning students are given more
challenging projects. (Only ten children per class)

Level 1 - Hand-building and Wheel Course
Thursdays 12:30pm - 3:00pm
This course offers both wheel and hand building instruction giving students the opportunity
to experience all pottery techniques that are available. It's a great place to start if you're
not sure yet which area you'd like to focus on or if you just really enjoy both like me!

Level 1 - Advanced - Hand-building and Sculpture
Thursdays 7:00pm - 9:30pm
Whether you are a beginning student or have already had a course in hand-building this is
a thoroughly absorbing program. Basic hand-building techniques of pinch pots, slab
making and coiling are introduced for the novice, and more challenging projects will be
undertaken using coloured clays and decorative relief by the more advanced student.
Techniques in the final finishing of each project with oxide washes or glazes are
addressed. Sculpture will be offered to those students wishing to work in this area.

STUDIO PRACTICE:
The studio is open for use during the day and some evenings for practice. You should
have taken at least two courses in pottery and glazing before buying a studio membership
Rates are 21 hours for $80 (includes GST). Purchase of clay is $32 per bag (includes GST)
