The student will practice both methods of ceramic production to create both functional and decorative pieces. The class will experiment with different decorating styles using patterns, embellishments, and underglaze colors and slips to enhance the work. There will be a deeper tutorial in glazing techniques to enhance patterns and textures. Benefits of this course include a continuous learning experience guided by a single instructor, an additional glazing session mid-term enabling the greater development of glazing skills, time to explore personal ideas, a well rounded ceramics education, an opportunity to have a few pieces fired in gas kiln, and more! Gloucester Pottery School is accepting entries for the Founder's Mug Exhibition.  This exhibition will be held in the Dust Evan's Gallery.  All items must be for sale.  60% of sales are retained by the artist and 40% of sales go towards the Founder's Bursaries to improve access of programming for members of equity seeking groups. You will first learn the art of centering the clay which will allow you make different pot shapes. Trimming a foot onto a pot and surface decoration is covered. Materials included. The students will roll slabs to construct the book form, but are encouraged to think ahead to how they would like to customize and decorate it. Projects will be ready for pick up in approximately 3-4 weeks (participants will be notified via email). What to expect:- The first 20-30 minutes will be a demonstration- The next 1 to 2 hours will be spent throwing pots on the wheel ? the whole class together at first so the instructor can ensure everyone?s successful first pot, and then students can continue at their own pace- The last 20-30 minutes the student will be instructed on how to clean their work stations ? an important part of the pottery making process to maintain a safe and healthy studio environmentAfter the workshop our technicians will trim and fire your pieces and they will be ready for you to pick up in 3 weeks.
